BOO! Did we scare you? No? Well this stat might: Without physical therapy, Frozen Shoulder can take up to TWO YEARS to recover from, and even then you may still be experiencing stiffness or limited range of motion. Frozen Shoulder, also considered Adhesive Capsulitis is a very common condition in which your shoulder gradually develops a severe stiffness over time. This can be extremely painful and limit your ability to complete typical everyday activities. With Halloween coming in fast over the horizon we understand if this concerns you, you likely didn’t even do anything to cause it, and your kids will need a chaperone around town to collect the block’s best king sized candy bar!
The Good News…
Halt your worries right there! We at Better With Physical Therapy have seen this so many times and it does not have to be as painful and protracted as you may anticipate. With PT, your recovery time frame is cut down to as low as a month depending on your condition! As much as we’d like to take credit for physical therapy being a magic cure, the power actually lies within you! All you have to do is take the first step.
For now we can recommend this excellent stretch you can do anywhere that will temporarily help with that pain being caused by your Frozen Shoulder: Sitting in a chair hug your shoulders with your arms crossed over your chest tightly and work your back gently over the back-rest of the chair. Following that, interlace your fingers behind your neck, squeezing your elbows together in front of you and follow the same motion over the back of the chair.
Though we wish this was a permanent cure to FroSho, as we therapists like to call it, this stretch will only act as a bandaid to your pain. We want to get you feeling better than ever, so while we know it may be difficult to reach out, especially with adhesive capsulitis, it is so important that you seek professional help to completely remedy the injury.
