Experience and Education
Our physical therapists hold clinical doctorate degrees in physical therapy. Although this is becoming more common, our physical therapists have many years of experience to back up the degree. Additionally, they all actively participate in continuing education programs to further their expertise in patient care.
Board Certified Clinical Specialization & Advanced Certifications
At Better With Physical Therapy in Madison, the advanced certifications held by our staff ensure that every patient receives top-tier care grounded in specialized expertise. Our physical therapists hold credentials like Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), a distinction earned by fewer than 5% of PTs nationwide. This certification means we possess advanced skills in diagnosing and treating complex orthopedic conditions, often uncovering underlying issues that may be missed in more generalized settings. Our OCS-certified therapists use evidence-based techniques to accelerate recovery, reduce pain, and improve mobility — all with the goal of helping you return to your daily activities stronger and more confident.
In addition, certifications like Dry Needling (CMTPT) and Running Gait Analysis (RUN DNA) allow us to provide targeted treatments that get to the root of your discomfort quickly and effectively. Dry Needling helps release muscle tension and trigger points that contribute to chronic pain, while Running Gait Analysis enables us to refine movement patterns for athletes and active individuals, reducing injury risk and enhancing performance. These specialized skills, combined with our commitment to one-on-one care, set us apart from clinics that take a more standardized approach. At Better With Physical Therapy, your care is personalized, precise, and designed to help you achieve your goals — because you deserve more than just the basics when it comes to your health and mobility.
Dr. Matthew Riordan
PT, DPT, OCS, CMTPT, Level 1 Running Gait Analyst, Founder/CEO
Life in your 40s is full — juggling career demands, raising a family, and supporting aging parents. With so much on your plate, it’s easy to let your own health take a back seat. Stiffness, aches, and nagging pains quietly creep in and start to feel “normal.” But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Matthew Riordan understands because he’s living it too. As a former collegiate athlete and a busy father of four, he knows the challenges of staying active, feeling youthful, and keeping up with the people and activities you love. He also knows that maintaining your mobility now is key to ensuring you don’t miss out on opportunities — whether that’s playing with your kids, advancing in your career, or staying independent as you age.
In 2004, Matthew founded Better With Physical Therapy after experiencing the limitations of standard PT practices that rushed through multiple patients at once. He knew there was a better way — a place where patients receive undivided attention and care tailored to their individual needs. His vision was to create a practice where patients matter the most and physical therapists can focus fully on achieving the best results for each person.
Matthew works with women and men who want to feel their best not just today, but well into their 70s, 80s, and beyond. His mission is simple: to help you move better, feel better, and live better through personalized one-on-one care that respects your time and goals.
With over 20 years of experience, Matthew holds a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS). He’s also certified in Dry Needling and as a Running Gait Analyst. But beyond credentials, his passion lies in empowering you with effective techniques to care for your most important asset — your body.
When you walk into Better With Physical Therapy, you won’t be rushed through a session or treated like just another number. You’ll receive focused, individualized care that identifies the root causes of your issues and sets you up for lasting success.
In a world where healthcare is becoming faster and less personal, Matthew and his team are committed to a different approach — one that values quality, connection, and results. Whether you’re managing daily aches, recovering from an injury, or simply wanting to stay active and pain-free, Matthew is here to help you become a better version of yourself.
When he’s not in the clinic or the YMCA, you might spot Matthew around Madison. He’s always ready to listen and lend a helping hand — because your health journey matters, and you deserve to thrive.

Dr. Jaime Ferreira
PT, DPT, CSCS, Level 1 Running Gait Analyst
Jaime grew up as a soccer player throughout his entire life. Along the road, he had his fair share of experiences visiting different medical professionals for a variety of injuries, but mostly ankle sprains. Jaime noticed the physical therapists he worked with were always engaged in his sessions and really seemed to enjoy what they were doing. More importantly, they were always able to get him back to doing the things he enjoyed most, such as playing soccer, hiking, biking and skateboarding.
Jaime enjoys working with all ranges of athletes from youth sports to weekend warriors to get them back to the things they love. However, along the way he has found a deep appreciation for putting together and solving the puzzle to help people achieve their goals.
Jaime received his Bachelor of Science in Biology Degree from Kean University. He continued at Kean University to receive his Doctorate of Physical Therapy. During that process, he completed one of his full-time clinical affiliations right here at Better With PT. Outside of the classroom as DPT student, Jaime worked along side professors completing research projects to further develop the Physical Therapy Profession. During his final year at Kean University, he worked as a Teaching Assistant to help 1st year students through their Anatomy lectures and cadaver laboratory.
In addition to being a Physical Therapist, Jaime is a youth soccer coach in his hometown of Union, NJ. He enjoys playing soccer recreationally, living an active lifestyle, and learning something new everyday.
