During August of 2010, I had a total right hip replacement. The physical therapy I experienced subsequent to that surgery gradually strengthened the muscles, but during the winter of 2011, I somehow pulled the muscles in my left hamstring muscle that caused excruciating pain. I found Professional Physical Therapy and Training at the Madison YMCA in February and began a regimen that included dry needling.

I participated in a physical therapy program during the spring of 2012 that included the use of the dry needling technique on the thigh muscles of both legs. The application of the needles to my constricted muscles gradually released the tension in the hamstrings and gluteal muscles.

The process was accompanied by an exercise program that gradually increased the range of motion in both thighs. I was able to follow up with a series of stretching and strengthening exercises that included the use of an exercise bicycle. While I am not crazy about being pierced by a needle, I find this process was very helpful with very little discomfort.

Today I walk up and down stairs with ease and take ballroom dancing lessons that enable me to do complicated steps I never even dreamed of doing before I had my surgery.

I would not hesitate to use the dry needling technique again should my muscles tighten up into similar knots again.

To Paul and Matt,

Thank you for all your help!

I thought that the dry needling worked great. It was short and really affective, being able to feel the differences the day after. In fact, I’ve had the treatment myself twice already and both times the injury disappeared the day after!

Thank you, Yuchin, for helping me with my pelvic floor issues. You made me feel comfortable and you are gentle. With the exercises you patiently taught me, I won’t have any more pelvic floor issues! I will highly recommend you.

Dear Matt,

Thank you so much for all you have done for me. Not too long ago I could only dream of being able to play sports again, especially softball. Many people simply gave up hope of me ever returning. However, because of your determination and care I am proud to say that you helped me achieve my dream of returning to the field. On May 14, 2012, I started first base (my 1st time playing in a game since April 2009). Even though my time being a patient of yours is over, I will continue to work hard to get my shoulder back to the way it used to be.

Thanks for everything!

I have been suffering from lower back and hip pain for some time. I have been to a variety of PT places and nothing has been like Yuchin and Professional Physical Therapy and Training. Yuchin used the Myofascial Release technique and this has worked wonders on me to help with pain relief. It is refreshing to have someone at a PT office actually treat the problem instead of having you sit in a row with 6 other people with ice and stim on your back. I am on the road to recovery now and am so thankful for what I have learned on how to self treat my problem to improve healing. I highly recommend them.

In 2011, pain in my lower back and hip brought my running to a standstill Dr. Riordan worked with me over the course of few months to release tightness in my hip and leg, and get my training back on track. I went on less than year after working with Dr. Riordan to complete my first Ironman distance triathlon followed by a 50 mile ultramarathon a month later. I continue to leverage the exercises Dr. Riordan taught me to keep flexible moving forward with my training.

Thanks for patching me up all of the time. Without your professional help, I would be unable to run.

Matthew;

Thanks for the help recovering from my hip resurfacing surgery and then my torn rotator cuff.

I had a friend who had similar hip surgery and then PT elsewhere. He described hip PT as about 20 minutes with the therapist and then the rest of the hour on the exercise bike. An hour of PT with you was just that – an hour with you. You performed the Graston Technique to heal the scar tissue, helped me stretch the connective tissue and had me do many different exercises to rebuild my strength. I appreciated that you kept me informed about proper technique and what each stretch and exercise was targeting.

I’ll admit that when I returned several months later with the shoulder injury I wasn’t pleased that you weren’t available during the only times I could come for therapy. I did come for PT with your associate Paul and was happy that I got the same type of treatment from him. Paul similarly gave me his full attention for a full hour of varied treatment. Paul is an exceptional listener. He asked me for feedback throughout our sessions but also continually took cues from my shoulder as we worked. Paul adapted my therapy continually during a session and onto successive sessions.

So, thanks Mathew. I’m sure you and Paul played a large role in my recovery (both times).
